    Abstract

This work explores an alternative process for the manufacturing of 6101 and 6101M aluminium alloy wires with the objective of improving their mechanical and electrical properties. The traditional manufacturing process in Argentina consists of distorting the wire rods, by means of drawing them to the final diameter, and at this point achieving the artificial aging of the samples. The proposed process includes cold working the wire rod by means of cold pilgering until the middle diameter, achieving a pre-aging treatment, continuing with the deformation by means of drawing until the final diameter and lastly achieving the artificial aging of the samples. Based on the analysis of the results obtained in this work, and for the coil of the alloys analyzed, it is concluded that the treatment of pre-aging responds satisfactorily in relation to the superior mechanical resistance and a poor less in the electrical conductivity in samples worked according to the proposed process. The parameters of the final thermal treatment should be adjusted in order to obtain an optimal combination of properties. The simulation of the first stages of wiredrawing by means of cold pilgering was successful in arriving at the final drawing with good integrity, better than observed generally in samples made with the traditional process.
